The alarm sounds at 4:30am — today you fly. A pre-dawn hot air balloon over the Namib Desert is one of Africa's most extraordinary experiences. Drift silently over Dune 45 and Deadvlei as the rising sun paints the dunes in shades of burnt orange, crimson and gold. After landing, a champagne breakfast is served in the desert.

Afternoon at leisure — visit the iconic Deadvlei clay pan with its 900-year-old camel thorn skeletons, and explore Big Daddy — Namibia's highest dune.

Today's centrepiece: rhino tracking on foot with a Save the Rhino Trust tracker — one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in Africa. Desert-adapted black rhino are critically endangered; tracking them on foot in this remote landscape is a profound privilege. The trackers read footprints, broken vegetation and dung to locate the animals.

Return to lodge for lunch. Afternoon exploring Twyfelfontein — a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 2,000 ancient San rock engravings, some 6,000 years old.

A full day exploring Etosha — the salt pan that stretches 130km across the park creates extraordinary wildlife concentrations at the park's famous waterholes.
