January and February bring one of Africa's least-known but most extraordinary wildlife spectacles — the Serengeti calving season. In the short-grass plains of Ndutu, up to 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily over a six-week period.
The concentration of newborn calves attracts every predator in the ecosystem — cheetah, lion, leopard and hyena hunt continuously. It is the most intense predator-prey interaction on earth.
